"Fixing" Previous Eyelid Surgery
While eyelid surgical procedures are safe and effective when performed by an expert, the work of some surgeons may create unanticipated functional and aesthetic problems that can appear almost immediately or sometimes even years after the procedure was performed.
Though patients are rightly disappointed and unhappy about unsatisfactory results, the good news is Dr. Marshak has particular expertise in correcting these problems. In fact almost 30%(?) of Dr. Marshak's work is devoted to correcting the mistakes or problems caused by other surgeons. Fortunately, many private health insurance programs cover Dr. Marshak's corrective services.
Dr. Marshak successful addresses three categories of problems caused by prior surgery:
- Aesthetic;
- Functional;
- Aesthetic/Functional.
If too much skin is removed, or if too much scar tissue forms on the lid, patients can experience lower eyelid retraction. Cosmetically, it causes an unnatural rounding of the eye. Functionally, it can lead to chronic dry eye. In most cases, both can be remedied with a corrective procedure Dr. Marshak frequently performs.
Medically indicated procedures may be covered by insurance.
